Artist Biography
Juanita Montoya
Juanita Montoya was
born in Barcelona, Spain and moved to Peru when she was 15 years
old.
For the last 10 years her creative interests, first in ceramics and
later in porcelain doll making, grew strongly and steadily. Her
learning experience included doll reproduction, doll repair and
sculptiny.
She put in countless hours of self-training and attended many
seminars and workshops.
Juanita was commissioned by Alisa to make wax dolls. Her first wax
doll was so outstanding that she won first prize for Clarissa. She
was competing with world-famous artists such as Annette Himstedt.
For her three dolls, Bianco, Pablo and Fiorella, she won recognition.
Fiorella was awarded First Prize by the International Doll
Makers Association. Pablo won Second Prize from Doll Magazine.
Bianca was awarded Judges Choice.
Juanita Montoya in a perfectionist and will work on a piece until she
it satisfied with it. The realism of her faces, the quality of her
fabric and her costume design are an experience.
Her wax dolls are made from her own specially formulated wax.
Juanita Montoya has shown her work at many shows in the Waldorf
Astoria, Radisson Hotel and the Warwick Hotel. She has been invited
to attend shows internationally.
